Behavior assessments and treatment planning

A careful look at what your child can do and what is getting in the way, then a written plan you approve.

What happens in a behavior assessment?

A behavior assessment is how we learn what your child can already do, what is getting in the way, and why a behavior is happening. A BCBA observes, gathers information from you, and turns it into a written treatment plan with goals you agreed to.

Nothing good comes from a plan written before anyone has watched the child. The assessment is the part that makes the rest honest, so we do not shorten it to start faster.

A BCBA spends time with your child, usually across more than one visit and more than one setting, and spends time with you, because you know things no observation will show. We use established assessment tools, not a questionnaire and a guess.

You get the findings explained in plain language, in English or Spanish. If something in the report does not match what you see at home, say so. You are the check on our work, and we would rather hear it before the plan is written than after.

When is an assessment needed?

  • Before therapy starts, to decide what to work on and how much support is needed.
  • When a behavior is new, escalating, or not responding to the current plan.
  • When your health plan requires a reassessment to continue authorizing services.
  • When a child moves between schools, homes, or stages and the plan needs to catch up.

What do you do with the results?

A written treatment plan

The goals, how each will be taught, who delivers it, and how often. This is the Treatment Planning part of what we do, and it comes out of the assessment rather than ahead of it.

Goals in plain language

Written so you can tell whether they are being met, not so they read well to an insurer.

A behavior support plan

Where a behavior is getting in the way, what it is doing for your child and what we will teach instead.

What gets measured

The specific data we will collect, so progress is a fact rather than an impression.

Your approval

Nothing starts until you have read the plan and agreed to it.

Submission to your plan

We handle the authorization paperwork with your insurer.

Where it happens

We travel to your child across Miami-Dade and Broward. There is no clinic to drive to.

At home

Where the daily routines actually happen, with your own things, at the time of day they matter.

At school

Working alongside the school team on the demands of a school day, with the school's agreement.

In the community

The shop, the park, the waiting room. The places families tell us are hardest.

Is it covered by insurance?

We accept Florida Medicaid, Simply Healthcare, TRICARE, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Florida Blue, Cigna and Evernorth, Aetna, and Curative. Plans and benefits change, so we check your coverage and tell you what to expect before you commit to anything.

Usually across more than one visit, and often a few weeks from first appointment to finished plan, because it includes observation, direct assessment, time with you, scoring, and writing. We will give you a realistic timeline at the start.
